OKINAWA – Department of Defense Education Activity – Pacific South District Superintendent Dr. Melissa Hayes is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Jeff Cherry as Kadena High School assistant principal, effective July 14, 2024.

“We are excited to welcome Mr. Cherry to the Pacific South team,” Dr. Hayes shared. “His Army service and experience as a DoDEA administrator will be great assets to the team.”

Mr. Cherry currently serves as assistant principal at Barsanti Elementary in DoDEA Americas’ Southeast District. His DoDEA experience also includes serving as the Senior Army Instructor at Fort Campbell High School, where he increased Cadet enrollment by 29 percent, and partnered with Loaves and Fishes Food Bank, Docs Dental, and the Fort Campbell Warrant Officer’s Club while increasing the civic-mindedness of his students. Under his supervision, his Cadets received more than $1.3 million in ROTC scholarships and achieved a 92.9 percent pass rate on the JROTC Leadership Employment Skills Standardized Test. Additionally, Mr. Cherry was the boy’s head basketball coach and an assistant football coach for the Fort Campbell High School Falcons. 

Prior to pursuing his educational aspirations, Mr. Cherry served in the active duty Army for more than 29 years as a Logistician and Operational Research System Analyst (ORSA). His leadership assignments include Senior Drill Sergeant, Brigade Supply Sergeant, Supply Platoon Leader, Maintenance Control Officer, Company Executive Officer, Brigade Support Operations Field Services Officer, Company Commander, Division Plans Officer, Assistant Professor of Military Science at Bucknell University, 1st Recruiting Brigade Research Analyst, and Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Strategic Analyst. 

Mr. Cherry holds a Master of Education degree from Bloomsburg University, Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Saint Leo University, Florida. A lifelong learner, Mr. Cherry is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Education Leadership at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. His military education includes Commanding General Staff College, Master Resiliency Trainer, Supervisor Development Course, Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, Support Operations Course, Quartermaster Basic Officer Leadership Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Drill Sergeant Academy, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, and Primary Leadership Development Course. 

Mr. Cherry is a proud father of a son and two daughters, an Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society member, and a Holmes Scholar awardee. His pastimes include traveling abroad, motorcycling, bowling, and reliving his glory days on the basketball court.
